Why invest in The Onion Guy?

More than 10,000 people have already experienced our Calçotada.

We proved that people everywhere want authentic food experiences — not just locals, not just Catalans.

A €200 million annual market in Catalonia.

La Calçotada was just the start. The same potential exists for other traditions everywhere.

We’ve validated the demand. Now we’re building the platform to make these experiences easy and accessible.

Proprietary intellectual property.

Two pending patents to guarantee top-level operations and product quality.

Science, technology, and precision.

That’s how we turn great traditions into reliable, unforgettable experiences for everyone.

We filled restaurants in the Netherlands. Now, we’re building the platform to scale it across Europe.

From Rocafonda to patents and a billion-euro vision.

Founder’s Vision

I grew up in Rocafonda, Mataró — a humble place, but I’ve always chased deep understanding of big challenges.

I’ve written code that runs on HP large-format printers.
Built power systems for electric Formula 1 prototypes.
Earned a PhD at Philips Research with eight first-author patents.

But after years inside companies led by uninspiring people, I knew I had to build something bigger. A company that matched my ambition.

Then I ran the math.
Calçotada: €200 million in Catalonia, for just 8 million people. That’s €25 per person, every year — for one single product.

It’s a unicorn product.

I couldn’t sleep. If it works like that in Catalonia, what happens when you take it global? I proved that you don’t need to be Catalan to eat calçots.

The demand is real. I have clients from all nationalities, with nothing to do with Catalonia.

I realized what this could become: a system to scale food traditions anywhere.

I dream in technology and breathe business. The challenge was clear: turn a tradition into a scalable digital product and an unbeatable business model.

If I solve this, I won’t just build a company — I’ll reshape the food industry, like Airbnb reshaped hotels, IKEA reshaped furniture, and Amazon reshaped commerce.

These last years have been my proving ground. I’ve tested, refined, and validated this model in real markets.

Now I’m ready to build it — and I’m inviting you to be part of it.

  • Global Potential

Believing that calçots can only be interesting in Catalonia is like saying sushi is only for the Japanese. If a tradition generates 200 million euros annually in a region of just 8 million people within only four months, it’s because there is a real, widespread interest. Markets don’t emerge by accident—they exist because people seek these experiences.
  • Expanding Traditions

The Onion Guy has successfully validated the growing demand for the Calçots beyond Catalonia and developed a business model to scale it globally. In this process, we also learned how to package and replicate the other experiences, paving the way to expand and apply the same approach to other food traditions.
  • Beyond Food

Our vision goes beyond that: our business model enables the delivery of any world tradition as easy-to-enjoy experiences, whether at home or in restaurants. We make it simple to connect with friends, meet new people, and do so in a way that is sustainable for the environment.
  • Investing in the Future

We are launching this investment campaign to raise 1.5 million euros and establish our operations base in the Netherlands to serve the Northern European market.

FAQS

What is the minimum I can invest?

The minimum investment is €10, plus €2.50 in fees, totaling €12.50. We’re committed to keeping participation accessible for everyone.

Is it impossible to raise funds with €10 contributions?

Not at all. If each person contributes €10 and shares with two others, exponential growth takes over. In just 17 days, that chain could reach over 150,000 contributors, raising €1.5M. This project is built on community strength, not big investors.

Why are you raising €1.5M?

We are raising €1.5M because this is an industrial project. Making food for people requires serious infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and logistics. We are building a company with the ambition to expand a €200M market from Catalonia to the rest of the world. This means producing primary products, creating jobs, and developing a global platform for gastronomy diversity.

Where do the raised funds go?

All funds are managed by a Dutch STAK foundation (Stichting Administratiekantoor), ensuring transparency and protection. The funds are used to build The Onion Guy’s infrastructure, expand La Calçotada internationally, and develop new food experiences. No external party can misuse these resources — they are fully dedicated to the project and its community.

Can I represent investors in the foundation?

Yes! We believe in community governance. If you are interested in representing investors within the Dutch STAK foundation and helping steer the project’s future, reach out to us — this project belongs to the community.

Who can invest?

You must be over 18 years old and legally entitled to invest.

What is the relation between La Calçotada and The Onion Guy?

La Calçotada is where it all began: a beloved Catalan tradition centered around sharing food and connecting people. The Onion Guy is its natural evolution—a project born from La Calçotada's success. Now, we’re taking that spirit further, connecting cultures worldwide through diverse culinary traditions and experiences. The Onion Guy’s infrastructure is designed to amplify and globally scale the La Calçotada tradition, bringing it to more people than ever.

What do patents have to do with The Onion Guy?

We have two key patents pending that will enable the global expansion of the La Calçotada tradition. Our research labs are constantly exploring new patent opportunities for other iconic food experiences. We are a food tech company — using science and technology to deliver the best possible food experiences to people everywhere.

What makes The Onion Memorandum different from other fundraising platforms?

The Onion Memorandum is not just a platform to raise funds — it allows you to share and amplify your investment. It gives you the tools to actively help expand the project and rewards your efforts by improving your investment position. Our ultimate goal is to make the platform open source, so others can raise funds without intermediaries taking a cut. It’s a fundraising model built to empower people, not platforms.

Why equity equityfunding?

We have had an incredible journey over the past few years, which has allowed us to create a unique food experience rooted in traditions. By introducing La Calçotada to thousands, we’ve built a community that values heritage and quality. To scale and extend our mission of creating a sustainable future, we’re launching this round of equity equityfunding. It helps us bring in additional resources to: - Expand our footprint across Europe, - Innovate with new sustainable food technologies, - Continue our journey to becoming a net-positive food company, - Develop a stronger community of supporters who share our vision.

What is equity equityfunding?

It is not a donation, it is an investment. Equity equityfunding allows a large number of people to pool their money together to support a business they believe in, through an online and regulated platform.

Who are La Calçotada’s other investors?

Our investors include forward-thinking food tech investors, business angels, and individuals passionate about food culture and sustainability. We’ve been fortunate to attract both experienced professionals and public figures who believe in the future we are building through La Calçotada.

What's next?

We will be in touch with you over the next few days with more information on our crowd raise and how to participate. Make sure to sign up early so that you don’t miss the opportunity to join us. And feel free to spread the word with friends!

What does a convertible note mean?

A convertible is an investment for equity in the company where shares will be issued at a future date. Typically, the shares will be issued once we complete a larger investment round.

Why a convertible note?

A convertible note allows us to raise equity finance without setting a valuation at this point. The valuation will be set during the next investment round or at an agreed date. This approach is part of our wider funding strategy.

When will they become shares?

The invested funds will be converted into shares when we close our next financing round. The equityfunding platform will handle the process, and you will receive an email once your shares are issued.

Which benefits do I have as an investor with a convertible note?

By investing in a convertible round, you are entering early, and your shares will be at a discount compared to future rounds. This gives you a stronger position in terms of share value and offers interest on your investment when the shares are issued.

What protections do I have as an investor?

The terms of the convertible note give you contractual protections. The equityfunding platform will ensure that your investment is converted into shares as agreed. However, as with any equity investment, there is risk involved, and interest, if applicable, is not guaranteed. Please read all risk warnings before investing.

What are the terms of the convertible?

The terms of the convertible note are available on our pitch page, and a summary will be sent to you after the pitch closes. Be sure to review the key terms document and the convertible loan agreement when they are made available.
